Secure Hub

Afero, the IoT platform that connects and secures every smart thing, launched the Afero Secure Hub, a standalone physical gateway that allows manufacturers to continuously monitor and control their smart devices. Afero has selected Qualcomm Atheros, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated to ensure secure and reliable communication between the Afero Cloud and any device equipped with the Afero Secure Radio module. Afero will leverage Qualcomm Atheros’ AR9344, a highly integrated and feature-rich Wi-Fi® solution, for residential and commercial IoT hub development. Combined with the Afero mobile app and embedded hardware, the Secure Hub offers another option for manufacturers and service providers to bring connectivity and security to smart devices by leveraging the Afero platform.

Qualcomm Atheros’ AR9344 is designed to help manufacturers and service providers deploy scalable and reliable network solutions. Its highly-integrated and feature-rich IEEE 802.11n premium SoC includes Ethernet, routing, and management functions to help monitor and control smart devices from almost anywhere.

The Afero Secure Hub is equipped with its own network connectivity and connects wirelessly to the Afero Cloud using LTE. By allowing manufacturers and service providers to leverage the Afero IoT platform, the Secure Hub gives manufacturers and service providers a quick and secure path for bringing connectivity to a wide range of devices. The Afero Secure Hub is simple to set up using the Afero mobile app, and users can monitor and control all devices connected to the Smart Hub from their smartphones, anywhere.

“The breadth and depth of Qualcomm Atheros’ wireless technology expertise is truly impressive,” said Joe Britt, CEO of Afero. “The company has a long history of providing incredible core technologies for wireless applications, and we’re proud to be working with them.”

Depending on the use case, Afero now offers manufacturers and service providers three ways to bring connectivity to smart devices using the Afero platform. Customers can connect smart devices through:

  • The Afero Secure Hub
  • Hub software included in the Afero mobile app
  • Embedded hub hardware/software in third-party devices

Afero launched in December with a comprehensive and secure IoT platform for developing cloud-connected devices across any industry. To date, some of the world’s largest companies, including Infocom and BANDAI NAMCO Studios, have chosen Afero as their preferred platform to build cloud-connected products and services.
