AGT International, a global leader in smart city solutions, announced today that they have been selected to support the City of Hamburg and Cisco in implementing Hamburg’s first Smart City pilot projects, which include smart traffic, smart street lighting, remote citizen services, as well as port operations and HafenCity, Europe’slargest inner-city development project. Cisco, the worldwide leader in IT, and leaders of the City of Hamburg signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to transform Hamburg into a Smart City of the Future. Building on the Internet of Things (IoT) and innovative technologies, Hamburg plans to improve the quality of life for its residents by enabling greater mobility, efficiency, safety and sustainability.
This announcement further brings to life the partnership between AGT International and Cisco after the two companies announced a Smart City Global Alliance that would dramatically change the way cities are managed and safeguarded by leveraging edge analytics, cloud technologies and the Internet of Things.
“We are thrilled to partner with Cisco to provide the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) with a world-class IoT solution that benefits citizens and customers,” said Mati Kochavi, CEO of AGT International. “We will be providing Smart Road Safety solutions, integrating them into the HPA Port Traffic Center using AGT’s IoT based analytical software.”
Wim Elfrink, executive vice president Industry Solutions & Chief Globalization Officer at Cisco, commented: “Hamburg is quickly emerging as one of the world’s Smart City showcases through its visionary development of urban and inter-related port services empowered by the Internet that can improve how people live, work, play and learn. AGT’s IoT based technology in the Smart Port system demonstrates how our Smart City Global Strategic Alliance to build smarter, safer cities, is being brought to life.”
In partnership with Cisco, AGT International will drive the execution of an initial smartPORT project, leveraging its IoT-based solutions to help improve traffic management and maximize efficiency at the port of Hamburg. Creating the overall IoT visualization concept, AGT will provide the IoT Platform to integrate all solutions into an operations center as well as its signature IoT Traffic Incident Management Solution. Other smartPORT projects currently planned for integration in Hamburginclude:
- An intelligent parking space control system for trucks and loaders is to be developed near the port to alleviate traffic and parking inefficiencies;
- A fully integrated traffic management system that allows for an optimized flow of cars and trucks and will help to prevent traffic jams and detect potential incidents;
- Smart streetlights that optimize energy consumption as well as tools to help capture and analyze emissions data in order to be able to provide more reliable forecasts on noise, temperatures, humidity and pollution; and
- Monitoring for port infrastructures to ensure safe and efficient operations.
“The port is at the heart of Hamburg’s economy. However, our intention is not to build out roads, rail connections and waterways without limits. Over the next years, we will be developing the Port of Hamburg into a smartPORT in order to further increase the efficiency of the current infrastructure and quality of services,” says Jens Meier, Chairman of the Management Board of Hamburg Port Authority (HPA).
The MoU follows on the Smart City Summit, hosted in Hamburg in December 2013, where representatives of public sector, research and education institutions as well as local and international companies came together to define a Smart City framework.
