Telematics Update has just unveiled its Telematics West Coast Conference & Exhibition (October 30-31, Hilton, San Diego) as the definitive meeting place for the connected car ecosystem on the west coast of America. Formerly known as Content & Apps for Automotive USA, the event has taken on a new name as the conversation in the industry has moved on from simply ‘how to bring cutting-edge services into the vehicle’ to creating a seamless driving experience, that is contextual and personal. In other words, the car understands what the driver wants and when.
Gareth Ragg, project director at Telematics Update commented, “App Mania is dead! The connected car has moved out of its app-crazy adolescence. Now it’s time to explore the evolution of the infotainment industry as content and services for the connected car grow up.” He continued, “…harnessing the abundance of data now available from the car to deliver personalized and contextual content and services that anticipate the needs of drivers is what will place car at the center of the connected lifestyle. Telematics West Coast will focus on this new opportunity.”
This huge opportunity for innovation is not restricted to the automakers but it’s also for players from outside the space. This is why Telematics Update has chosen San Diego, California, for the home of its flagship west coast event. It’s a hub of innovation for the consumer electronics, mobile and wireless industries – and now automotive. Mercedes-Benz Research & Development has recently opened a new office in the heart of Silicon Valley where many entrepreneurial companies are also developing new devices and applications for the automobile.
Telematics Update’s MD Precksha Saksena-Sood explains why now is the time for Telematics Update to make a home on the west coast. “The connected car is no longer just an opportunity for the automotive industry. It’s a potential money-maker for CE giants, app developers, data aggregators and the telematics ecosystem alike. It’s more crucial than ever for the traditional auto telematics players to connect with the innovators and start to view the car as a crucial node in the Internet of Things. We can’t wait for this new iteration of the event.”
The full agenda and speaker line-up for Telematics West Coast will be announced in the next two weeks. Speakers confirmed so far include Jaguar Land Rover, Continental, INRIX, AUPEO and Harman.
This week, to launch the new Telematics West Coast 2014, Telematics Update will be hosting a complimentary live webinar entitled ‘App Mania is Dead: The Evolution of In-Car Infotainment’. Experts from Ford and INRIX will discuss:
