SAP also announced new industry accelerators for companies in the life sciences, oil and gas, and mining industries. The announcement was made at the SAP Leonardo Live event that took place Nov. 2–3 in Chicago.

SAP Leonardo accelerates innovation for customers with a user-centric approach that identifies the desired business outcome and then applies relevant technologies such as the Internet of Things, machine learning, blockchain, Big Data and analytics. Throughout the process, SAP collaborates with its customers and their stakeholders to build working prototypes in a number of weeks that address the customer’s business, end-user and IT needs.
With headquarters in Sweden, SKF is a leading global supplier of bearings, seals, mechatronics, lubrication systems and services that include technical support, maintenance and reliability services, engineering consulting and training. SKF used SAP Leonardo to better understand how production operators could manage their workflow, deliver mission-critical information, manage exceptions and reduce errors.

Vale, with headquarters in Brazil, is one of the largest metals and mining companies in the world. The company worked with SAP on a digital solution to reduce the number of rejected purchase requisitions from service technicians, which can delay maintenance and operations of the mines. Using SAP Leonardo Vale created a mobile app prototype for image recognition to intelligently check for available contracts. This innovative solution can easily be integrated with Vale’s ERP system, through SAP Cloud Platform, scaling across all of Vale’s operations.
“In just four weeks we were able to design a user-centric solution to optimize our purchase, requisition and maintenance process,” said Hélio Mosquim, IT innovation manager at Vale. “The process helped define the specific problem and map the right digital technologies to address it most effectively.”
SAP Leonardo industry accelerator packages reduce the time it takes to deploy innovative solutions by preintegrating SAP software solutions, integrating process expertise and quickly applying these to customer needs through design thinking methodology. Customers can go from brainstorming to blueprint to business value for one simple price and license structure. The new accelerators expand those currently available for retail, consumer products, discrete manufacturing, chemicals, travel and transportation, utilities, and sports and entertainment industries. - Life sciences: helping minimize product spoilage and degradation and maximize equipment performance with SAP Leonardo capabilities including connected goods, analytics and machine learning
- Mining: helping manage vehicles to reduce maintenance cost and improve fleet operations with SAP Leonardo capabilities including vehicle insights, predictive maintenance and service, and analytics
- Oil and gas: helping manage complex equipment to reduce service cost and improve performance with SAP Leonardo capabilities including predictive maintenance and services, asset intelligence and analytics
