Lexumo, developer of the world’s first automated service for continuously monitoring Internet of Things (IoT) code for critical open source vulnerabilities, has announced that Brad Gaynor has been selected to speak at the IoT Security Summit (October 17-19 inBoston).
Brad will be speaking about the financial impact and brand damage that result from cyberattackers and security researchers exploiting vulnerabilities in consumer and industrial IoT devices. He’ll also discuss the return on investment (ROI) of identifying and remediating vulnerabilities earlier in the development cycle, compared to the significant expense and engineering effort required to update vulnerable IoT devices in the field. The panel also features Tom Stumpek, who previously held roles as CISO, CIO and CTO in various business units of the General Electric Company (GE).
Lexumo uses graph analytics and machine learning developed for DARPA to precisely identify public vulnerabilities such as Heartbleed in IoT and embedded code. The company was recently recognized as an IoT Company to Watch and a Machine Learning Startup to Watch.
The impact of shipping insecure IoT devices was vividly illustrated recently when cyberattackers exploited vulnerabilities in 1.5 million IoT devices – including IP-connected cameras, DVRs and home routers – to generate the world’s most powerful Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack to date. The unprecedented attack successfully disabled the website of well-known security researcher Brian Krebs. Cyberattackers also leveraged their massive botnet army to launch a separate DDoS attack on European ISP OVH that reached nearly one terabit per second (Tbps).
Brad will also be speaking on a second developer-focused panel about the next generation of embedded security. Details below:
Panel: Balancing Security and Technology Spending in the Industrial IoT
- Who: Brad Gaynor, PhD, Lexumo CTO and Founder; Tom Stumpek, former CISO, CIO and CTO at the General Electric Company; Ben Rogers, Engineer, Venafi.
- What: Understanding the repercussions of security vulnerabilities and breaches.
- When: Tuesday, October 18, 12-12:40pm.
