Mendix, a leading application Platform-as-a-Service (aPaaS) provider, announced details of a 24-hour, IoT-themed hackathon at Mendix World 2016, which will take place June 7-8 at the Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The hackathon is being sponsored by Mendix partner KPN.
The Mendix World 2016 Hackathon will challenge small teams to build working Internet of Things (IoT) Smart Apps in just 24 hours. There will be several IoT use cases for developers to choose from, including an event app that leverages sensor data collected at Mendix World plus real customer scenarios to be announced shortly. To facilitate rapid connectivity and deployment, participants will have access to the KPN LoRa Network, a long-range network for connecting low-energy, low-data devices, plus one-click deployment on AWS.
Beginning on June 6th, teams will build applications over a 24-hour period at the Van Nelle Factory. An estimated 60 Mendix developers are expected to participate, with teams competing for prizes in Professional and Student categories. Audience voting will take place via the Mendix World event app and the winners will be announced during the plenary closing remarks.
“At our last Mendix World hackathon, I was blown away by the sophisticated apps both professional and student developers could build in only 24 hours. It really illustrates the power of the platform,” said Derek Roos, CEO and co-founder of Mendix. “This year, we’re excited to push the limits of what’s possible with the Internet of Things. I look forward to seeing how the teams take advantage of connected devices and the data they generate to rapidly build innovative Smart Apps with Mendix.”
