The STARflex reader marries the unmatched performance and location capabilities of the STAR RFID system architecture with a highly flexible new design optimized for cost effective, easy-to-deploy solutions for enclosed environments such as real-time inventory tracking in retail apparel and patient flow management in ambulatory healthcare.
STARflex is ideally suited for use in indoor RFID tracking applications where reflections from metal shelves and fixtures obstructing the signal in line-of-sight (LOS) between the reader and tag can significantly reduce read rates. The STAR product line embeds key US patents and intellectual property developed by Mojix over a decade, encompassing iterative decoding to enable the detection of weak signals from tags, unleashing the ability to read tags from long distances in none-line-of-sight (NLOS). STARflex takes advantage of smart antenna techniques for location tracking and is optimized for synthesizing waveforms in high-density tag environments, such as those found in retail stores.
Thanks to an exclusive, patented, distributed excitation architecture, STARflex is built on a unique RFID technology that assures reliable excitation and detection of all tags, wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling. The reader can detect tag signals up to one hundred times weaker than other RFID readers, delivering the highest read rate throughput and read reliability in the industry. STARflex is ideal for any hands-free, real-time inventory and location-tracking solution, such as Mojix’s recently announced OmniSenseRF™ Inventory Service for retail.

The STARflex software architecture is optimized for simplicity and resilience in order to enable fast deployment of robust distributed systems. For tag data, STARflex features native support for the lightweight MQTT device protocol, which was developed expressly for the Internet of Things (IoT). To simplify and speed integration, STARflex is the first major RFID reader featuring a RESTful interface for control and status. Users can implement business logic software directly on the reader using this RESTful interface, or by using the modern and ubiquitous node.js web framework that enables use of over 200 thousand open source packages for easy integration with virtually any enterprise system.
