Streetline announced today that its leading guidance application, Parker™, has been honored for the Best Mobile App for City and Urban Innovation in the 18th Annual Webby Awards. Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet. The IADAS, which nominated and selected The Webby Award Winners, is comprised of web industry experts, including media mogul Arianna Huffington, Skype CEO Tony Bates, Mozilla CEO and Chair Mitchell Baker, Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom, mobile-phone inventor Martin Cooper, and creator of the Jif Steve Whilhite.
Streetline is harnessing the power of the Internet of Things and sensor technology to tackle one of the most pressing issues facing cities today—parking. Using sensors embedded into the pavement of parking spaces, the Streetline system detects the presence of a vehicle and relays occupancy information to a number of applications including Parker, the leading motorist guidance application, and ParkerData™, Streetline’s suite of API’s that include both a real-time availability API as well as an API containing static policy information for over 25,000 off-street facilities. By providing real-time guidance to available parking spaces, Parker helps to reduce the time spent searching for parking thus reducing congestion and CO2 emissions and improving the mobility and vibrancy of a city.
“Honorees like Parker by Streetline are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet,” said David-Michel Davies, Executive Director of the Webby Awards. “It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the 12,000 entries we received this year.”
“We are thrilled to be named as an honoree in the City and Urban Innovation category of The Webby Awards,” said Kelly Schwager, Chief Marketing Officer at Streetline. “Parking is a universal problem that has lacked any innovation for decades. By taking a system-wide approach to solving this issue, we are helping cities worldwide to improve urban mobility.”
