MWC Sierra

Sierra Wireless is showcasing its solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT) at Mobile World Congress 2018, which takes place February 26 – March 1, at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain.

Sierra Wireless will exhibit in the GSMA Innovation City, Hall 4, stand #4A30, demonstrating how the company is empowering customers to reimagine their future in a connected world, creating a better future in all facets of life, including:

  • Connected Agriculture: Sierra Wireless and Bosch Software Innovations will showcase a connected greenhouse designed to optimize harvests, with sensors to measure humidity, temperature and luminosity for different plants. Visitors can monitor the plants’ conditions through a dashboard and see how a humidifier automatically waters the plants when the soil gets too dry. Both the humidifier and the sensor are connected via the Bosch IoT Suite’s device and gateway management. This allows users to remotely control the devices and send data through a Sierra Wireless gateway based on the mangOH® Red open source platform and a WP8548 embedded module tightly integrated with smart connectivity services.
  • Worker Safety: Sierra Wireless and Intellinium will showcase an LPWA-connected shoe designed to improve worker safety. Visitors can see how a force sensor membrane triggered in the safety shoe sends an alert to a tablet monitored by the employer or colleagues, as well as a variety of feedback options that can be sent back to the worker through vibrations in the shoe. Intellinium’s safety shoe is equipped with a Sierra Wireless HL7 series embedded module tightly integrated with smart connectivity services to ensure mission-critical communication.
  • Solar-Powered Drone Surveillance: Sierra Wireless and XSun will showcase a flight simulation of XSun’s 4.5m-wide, solar-powered drone monitoring a pipeline between France and Spain. Visitors will experience XSun’s Control Center application and see all drone data reliably transmitted through Sierra Wireless’ AirLink® RV50 gateway and multi-operator smart connectivity services. Sierra Wireless’ AirVantage® IoT platform is used to measure data consumption and manage the drone fleet lifecycle. The solar-powered drone is targeted at agricultural, sea, land and infrastructure surveillance.
  • Connected Laundry Machines: Sierra Wireless and Girbau will showcase Sapphire, Girbau’s new remote monitoring service for laundry machines, which is transforming the commercial laundry business. Visitors can see how Girbau’s “IoT Kit” connected to the washing machine collects and transmits machine data through Sierra Wireless’ FX30 programmable IoT gateway and smart connectivity services to the Sapphire app. Laundry operators use the app to monitor and manage their entire fleet of machines and can be alerted to potential issues, reducing downtime and costs.
