To help businesses navigate the complex and largely proprietary Internet of Things (IoT) market, Sunil Marolia, Vice President of Product Management at Smith Micro, will present use-cases highlighting the challenges of IoT device management, and techniques to address them, at OMA’s IoT Seminar, “Bridging the gap between standards and developers in the IoT space” (January 21). Marolia will leverage his extensive expertise in over-the-air device management, including his work on 12-related patents*, to educate attendees on the benefits of utilizing the Lightweight M2M (LWM2M) protocol, along with OMA Management Object extensions, in industries such as aviation, heavy machinery, and medical devices.
“Smith Micro’s heritage in mobile device management and significant contributions to industry standards has allowed us to embrace and extend industry protocols, such as LWM2M, to give customers greater control over IoT devices,” said Marolia. “IoT business models only work if you have efficient management of mobile devices, including the ability to configure and diagnose devices, as well as update firmware over the air (FOTA). We can offer expert guidance in these areas to help device makers and enterprises reduce operational costs and increase reliability of their IoT deployments.”
